i do...

I shot a wedding earlier this month. Melissa and Shane were (are) incredibly sweet. They let me go and were open to any ideas. The wedding was simple and lovely. Taking photos of two people who are madly in love is always an uplifting experience. Thank you, Melissa and Shane!

So am I a wedding photographer now?! Well, weddings are going to start taking over my life a little bit more. Almost every weekend for the next two months I have a wedding session. I am shooting along side Cornerstone Photographers. It will be a good learning experience, and I can't wait to get started.

Last night I reclaimed my space. It was one of the single best decisions I have ever made.

kansas city living

It has been awhile since my last post. I have been packing, moving, and unpacking.

I am now a Kansas City resident. Kansas, not Missouri side. I have a part-time job to pay the bills and a potential full-time job in the works. Yes, it involves photography.

Anyway, I enjoyed my first 'First Fridays' art show as a KC resident last week. As well as a Saturday morning to the farmers market by way of bus. I live close enough to bike to the Missouri side and catch the bus in Waldo. It's a straight shot downtown. Perfect.

On that note, here is one of my favorites from the art show. Warm weather always brings out street performers, which I love.

I will have more to come from the art show, as well as a wedding I shot on the first.

exhuasted

I am too worn, and my feet are too tired.
I snapped a quick shot of the sky as I get out of my car and walk into my house.

There is a long list of activities and tasks to check off in the next few weeks before I stop calling Lawrence home. I know the list will get done, and I'll probably enjoy a lot of it along the way. For now though, my head feels too small for its contents, and my neck too weak for its weight.

My Web site is finally done. It's not June, but it's close enough in my book. I'll mark this one a victory.

In.lon.shka 2009

I recently got back from Pawhuska, Okla., where I stayed with the Red Corns for the annual dances. The family is full of talented and all around great people. I am fortunate to know them.

hannah

She left exactly a week ago for Chicago. And while I will miss our close proximity and the ease it provided, I could not be happier for her. I can no longer understand how a person would not want their friends to scatter to the far corners of the world and be where they want to be.

She will call Chicago home, and I will call on her for stories, new knowledge, and a welcoming couch.

EAW

I had practically forgotten I applied. There has been no nail-biting expense for me. It was the first time - a practice round of sorts. I wasn't going to make it, but no big deal....

Then I received an email at 9:42 p.m. that I keep rereading.

I am worried I have misread. No, it clearly says I have been accepted. I hit the facebook status, followed by twitter.

Maybe I spoke too soon though. What if it is a mistake... an error? I check the Web site. My account is prepared for as if for a recently accepted member...

How did this happen?

i'm on a boat

I went out on a sailboat for the first time in my life last night. This summer also marks my first official camping trip. Combining the two some day might just complete my life.

AWESOME!

I had the opportunity to continue my KU inventory job during the summer and took it. As I tag and record new items, I have to take pictures. It's just a small point-and-shoot camera, but I am glad I had it for this Haworth lab find!

KBM portrait

I had a shoot for the Kansas Banker Magazine. The editor and I wanted to try a little something different for the cover portrait - different at least for the magazine. I busted out the ringflash. I know it can get overused really easily, but how many banker magazines use it?

mai

I shot the Lawrence High School graduation at Memorial Stadium this past weekend. I didn't reinvent how to shoot a commencement, but I did make a publishable photo. So, I got that going for me.

they only have themselves to blame...

"The real reason traditional media companies are freaked is because they’re losing control. They’ve dropped the leash and the dogs are running wild. Now they’re sitting around with their arms folded saying, “They’ll be back when they realize they need us.”

"Sorry, guys. We don’t need you. You can join the pack and run with us if you like, but the leashes will never be back."

- Derek Powazek

(I found this via twitter from my old boss. thanks, thad.)

in the thick and thin of summer...

I go to work when I wake up and get to it.
I take midnight bike rides on Freedom Creek.
I immerse myself in dirty lake water (enjoying every second).
I sleep in view of the stars more often.
I listen to music louder.
I spend more time without clothes suffocating my body.
I make green grass my napping blanket.
I cook and bake like the housewife I never want to be.
I find the happiness I always knew I had.
I capture more photos for the memory books.
I miss old friends.
I become nervous about August plans (or the lack there of).

I am moving with the summer tide.

just another four years...

Many soon-to-be grads are exuding a lot of nostalgic feelings right now.
Not me.
I don't think it's because I didn't enjoy my college career.
I did enjoy it.
I don't think it's because I am a fifth year.
I know it's not.
I don't think it's because I am tired of Lawrence, or even Kansas for that matter.
That's simply not possible.

It's because I am ready.

Ottawa meets Pawhuska

I just got back from a weekend trip to Pawhuska, Okla. The town is so small that people park on the wrong side of the street, and no one cares.

After years of thinking I wanted to be a city girl... I have come to realize I could never be too far away from open spaces.

I don't want to be surrounded by asphalt my whole life.
